College of All Magic Destroyed

THE CENTER OF MAGICAL LEARNING IN ORANIA HAS FALLEN!  - JUNE 2012

Battle for the College

Brave adventurers struggle to protect the College of All Magic against a fierce Shadow Dragon attack, to no avail.
College of All Magic Falls
For over a month, black obelisks have surrounded the Risen Lands Bazaar.  No one knew how they appeared or what they did, though one adventurer warned that touching the obelisks led to instant teleportation to one of the Shadow realms.  In hindsight, these obelisks clearly posed a danger to the Risen Lands, but no one fully realized exactly how deadly they could be.  This past bazaar, a horde of Shadow Dragons descended on the College of All Magic in response to a summons sent through the obelisks.  As adventurers watched helplessly, they decimated the college, tearing down buildings and massacring any who got in their way.  Broken ruins are all that are left of the College.  After a massive battle, the initial band of Shadow Dragons was defeated, and the healers from the College managed to erect a barrier to ward off the second wave of attackers, but the protection is only temporary.  The sheer power of the unexpected attack stunned everyone watching.  Orania faces a threat greater than we have ever seen.  These creatures, though they bear a superficial resemblance to the dragons we know, are not dragons, but some amalgamation of shadow and monster.  If you have information regarding these creatures, please inform us!
Mages Bicker After Disaster
A disturbing schism has appeared in the ranks of Orania’s most powerful mages.  After the destruction of the College of All Magic, factions among the mages began arguing in the ruins.  Their shouting matches, combined with erratic bursts of mage-energy as they lost control of their powers, scared many who watched the situation dissolve into chaos.  Some wanted to rebuild the College before doing anything else, others argued that destroying the Shadow Dragon menace was the most important, and yet another group sought to reorganize the way the College was run.  None of the mages seemed very effective at helping deal with the disaster, though hopefully they will begin working together soon.  But for some, this incident is the last straw.  Thieren Bloodaxe echoed the sentiments of many watchers when he said, “Those high and mighty mages in their ivory towers are useless parasites.  Time to get rid of them and start again.”  There are even rumors going around that a few powerful adventurers chose to loot the ruins instead of fighting the Shadow Dragons, claiming that they would rebuild the College better than before.
Empress Meng Returns
Another danger has returned to this land: Empress Meng leads the Krav Mercenaries again.  Eyewitnesses report that a ceremony requiring the death of an innocent maiden brought Meng back to life.  But, due to the efforts of a band of heroic adventurers, something went wrong.  Though Meng barely escaped, she looked exhausted and weakened.  Whether she regains her full powers remains to be seen.  The intended sacrifice, named Liliana according to our sources, was rescued and reunited with her prospective husband.  Rumor has it that this also prevented war from breaking out, though no one is willing to confirm these rumors.
War in the Penumbra
Lord Degamesian, the Sable Elf who five years ago released the oblivion storm on the world, has returned to life with the help of the Heart of Irony, a powerful resurrection stone that can only be used by necromancers.  He has begun a bid to take over the Penumbra and regain his former power.  Moonshadow, the leader of the Temple of Dark Waters and Degamesian’s daughter, opposes him, and has many powerful allies of her own.  The conflict threatens to tear apart the Penumbra, for neither side has an advantage.
Adamantium Guard Unmasked
For five years, people have suspected that a good part of the Adamantium Guard is secretly loyal to Lin Chu Hao.  Some defected openly, but many others may remain hidden in the ranks.  But a group of brave questers revealed last week that more dangerous creatures have infiltrated the guard at the highest level.  They unmasked the leader of the guard as a shadowy creature who they destroyed.  It is unknown if this creature was a Shadow Dragon, an ally of the Shadow Dragons, or an entirely new menace.  The former Captain of the Guard Andre was restored to power once the monster was defeated.  He promises to hunt down the corruption in the ranks of the guard and restore it to its former glory.
Curse on Mines Dispelled
For months, people who entered the Mines of Shaviek have been disappearing, leaving only a silver coin behind.  When adventurers investigated this strange phenomenon, they discovered that the curse was caused by garnets embedded in the walls of the mines.  These garnets were actually shadowy Glomglitzen, who were transforming people into coins in an attempt to spread chaos and Shadow.  They drew their energy from a dormant Shadow Dragon that resided beneath the mines and was slowly waking up.  Once the adventurers found this out, they searched out the Shadow Dragon and destroyed it before it could wake up fully and spread more death and destruction.

Tidings and Rumors, Week Seven & Eight
Report by Emily Randall

Zorgod Attacks!
Last week, Zorgod summoned an immense army of giant undead constructs to attack the Kingdom of Dawn.  Brave adventurers summoned sky krakens from deep space to combat this menace, but were only partially successful.  Although they defeated Zorgod’sarmy, the Kingdom of Dawn became a necropolis!  No one has been able to contact King Pellinore or any Isitus members.  Not even the Summerlandscould come to Dawn’s aid, as they are currently fighting a disastrous blight.  This paper is being written from hiding in the White Wolf Nations.  We do not know who else survived the destruction.

Clockwork Golem Stopped
A band of adventurers were going to seek their fortunes in the mining town of Tanglebrook Nook when they discovered that the town was under attack by strange shadows in the sky dropping explosives. After a long chase on a Gnomish Eight-Wheeled Scooter they followed these shadows to an unusual clockwork city in the sky.  Unfortunately, they accidentally activated the city, which transformed into a gigantic clockwork golem.  Finally, the adventurers stopped the golem, but not before it destroyed Tanglebrook Nook.  Now, the clockwork city rests peacefully where Tanglebrook Nook used to lie.

Spectres Trapped
Four Questers looking for adventure discovered a shifting curtain of magic that they could touch and walk through, but not affect with magic.  When they tried, they heard a ripping sound, and within seconds found themselves completely unconscious. Their consciousness moved into the bodies of some children, who now had to discover what happened to the adventurers. The Questers had released Espectros, terrible creatures that drain spirit and dream energy in seconds. The child adventurers eventually beat them with Void Knives that could cut through creatures of spirit energy and managed to free the spirits of the four adventurers who had released them.

Time Dragon Defeated
The magistrate of Candy Town, a quaint vacation spot in the Great Heart Forest, tried recently to summon a time dragon named Cthael, for an unknown purpose.  But his magic was not strong enough to stop Cthael, who began destroying the town and enslaving the townsfolk.  Luckily, a band of Questers came upon the town, and offered their aid.  After many struggles, they figured out that Cthael was wreaking havoc in order to obtain a pyramid of power.  This pyramid had been used in the summoning spell, and Cthael wanted to ensure that no one could use it again.  Using the pyramid, the brave adventurers were able to banish Cthaeland restore order to Candy Town.

The Dark Man Destroyed
The Dark Man, a terrifying creature that eats dreams, seemed recently to be a powerful new player in the game of Oranianpolitics.  No one knew where he came from or what his true goals were, but everyone was certain that he was a dangerous Shadowy villain.  But now he is gone.  Some of the most powerful people in the land sacrificed their lives to defeat him.  He consumed their essence in the sight of another group of heroes, arrogantly displaying his power.  But these new heroes were the only ones who could take him out, for only Dream could ever hurt him.  They wielded Dream by their very nature.  In the end, he was destroyed, and all of his Shadowy spells unraveled.

Ogre Subdued
A town terrorized by an ogre and his goblin minions has been saved, thanks to the efforts of brave fighters and mages.  They survived rockslides, parlayed with an old albatross, fought a stone golem, solved a runic trap, and scared a tunneling wyrmto death before arriving at the village, where they discovered their true mission.  They found and scared off the goblins attacking the town, and followed them to their lair.  There the adventurers learned that a giant ogre had been commanding the goblins.  They fought and subdued the ogre, winning another victory for the Light.

Zorgod Destroyed
Zorgod the Necromancer, the Dark King of Shadonia, has finally been defeated, signaling the end of Shadonia’s reign of terror.  By undergoing a series of terrifying ordeals, a group of heroes learned about his true origins and his sordid past of betrayal and thirst for power.  They used that knowledge to discover his true weakness: love and Light.  They could not use violence or aggression to take him down, but had to utilize respect, love, honor, courage, and Light.  They were almost engulfed in the conflagration that swallowed Zorgod’s palace, but escaped in the end. Rumors of his death have caused some Archmages to ponder if Zorgod--or anyone for that matter--could be "killed" by love and Light, or if something else happened.

Plague Totems Shattered
The Plague Dragon, a menace from the distant past, has returned to Orania.  It was raised by Zorgod as an undead, more powerful than before.  To bolster its power, it began to create Plague Totems which sprang up across the land, spreading disease and darkness.  Thankfully, several groups of heroes learned of this, and vowed to destroy the totems before they could channel the Plague Dragon too much power.  One group learned that Romeo’s top lieutenant, Krexxa, was trying to control the plague energy and stage a coup.  They chased him, destroying totems as they went, until they forced him into an epic battle at one of the totems.  Even though he had a scale from the Plague Dragon, they managed to defeat him, and take out the totem that he had been guarding.  Another group searched out the totems that had been corrupted by Zorgod, with the help of another necromancer.  In the end, they had to battle Purge, who wanted to destroy all the innocent undead, as well as the necromancer controlling the totems.  Purge was turned into a zombie during the battle, and fled, just before the necromancer was vanquished.  Vex, Purge’s lieutenant, vows that she will find Purge by whatever means necessary, and end the abomination.  Because of the heroes’ valiant efforts, the Plague Dragon is much weakened.  But it is still out there, a threat to the Light.

Chernebog Redeemed
Chernebog, the fearsome giant tuskephant who has long struck terror in adventurers’ hearts, has at last become Light-filled, according to witnesses.  A group of Questers were tricked by Zorgodinto placing talismans in the Plague Totems that created a zombie plague controllable by Zorgod.  They had just discovered the truth when Chernebogarrived, furious because his beloved Chernekittyhad been killed by the new plague.  A quick-thinking adventurer transformed into a cat to calm him down long enough to explain that Zorgodhad caused Chernekitty’sdeath.  After a standoff with Zorgod'shead liutenant, Chernebograced off to Shadonia, where he delivered a Blow of the Apocalypse to the Wells of Shadow, cracking them and breaking his Shadow axe.  This sent Shadoniacrashing to the ground, its source of power destroyed.  Dororothe Assassin explains that he has given Chernebogthe Unicorn Spear, the last artifact of the IsitusSociety, and Cherneboghas accepted his newfound Light.

Ashida, Meng Beheaded
Until very recently, most reputable witnesses reported that the Empire of the Seven Stars, led by Lin Chu Hao, was allied with Empress Meng and the forces of Shadonia.  The Krov Mercenaries were stationed on its border with the necropolis that had once been the Kingdom of Dawn, and the famed assassin Ashida Takeki could be found in the Empire.  But no longer.  A group of powerful adventurers went to hunt down both Ashida and Meng, promising to destroy their Shadowy taint.  A water elemental named Kirby, now calling himself Kirby the Culler, channeled all the Shadowy power of Krell’s blade to strike off Ashida’s head in an epic battle.  Later, Kyreija, who had recently learned the skills of a Berzerker, did the same to Empress Meng, and held it up in front of all the Krov, making her the new leader of the mercenary group.  To the surprise of many, Lin Chu Hao’s forces  turned against Shadonia what a masterful stroke of power against what seemed to be a shadowy alliance, and the Lotus Regeme reclaimed the Empire of the Seven Stars for the Light.  According to experts, Lin Chu Hao is assured to be the next Empress.

Rulers Rescued from the Oblivion of the Void!

Even while Shadonia seems to be struggling against the forces of Light, new threats have emerged... no thanks to the Voidmaster!
Tidings and Rumors, Week Four
Report by Emily Randall

The Truth of Lady Silver
Lady Silver used to be a powerful pirate captain who ruled the seas around the Pirate Islands, until she disappeared.  A song was written about her, but apparently few people knew the full lyrics.  A group of adventurers discovered that the song known by many was not actually complete, and set out to find the rest of the story.  They realized that Lady Silver had, for many years, sought out seven silver circlets that had strange magical properties.  The group found those circlets, which Lady Silver had given to each of the captains of her fleet.  Using those circlets, the Questers were able to release the devaof a volcano on the Pirate Islands and finally discover exactly why Lady Silver had vanished.  She had, in fact, merged herself with the volcanic deva!  The adventurers were richly rewarded for their discovery.

Lord FuzzyPoof Found
A band of adventures reported that they found Fuzzy, the lord of all fuzzypoofs.  He is a gigantic fuzzypoof, as big as a cloud, who floats around in the sky.  The adventurers suspect that he may be more powerful than an ordinary fuzzypoof.

Isitus Society Destroyed
The Inner Council of the Isitus Society, a society founded to protect the Light, was meeting last week to discuss the serious problems threatening Orania when they were attacked.  The Dark Man appeared in the middle of the council and, according to eye-witnesses, absorbed the dreams of the dragon Isitus.  Some also say that he absorbed Kiki, Berto’s friend.  Then the Dark Man slashed open a portal to the Void, allowing the Voidmaster and thousands of Void Drek to nearly annihilate the Inner Council.  Dororo the Assassin is the only one who survived.  He now bears the Unicorn Spear, and says that he is trying to rebuild the society.  “If you are Light-filled and want to fight the Shadowy threats that may soon engulf our world, you are welcome here!” he announced.  Some say that Isitus, as he lay dying, told a group of adventurers that there was a seed of Light planted in one of the remaining Shadonian Lords.  An 8-yr-old boy told us that those adventurers then traveled through the dreams of each Lord, and finally found the spark of Light in Chernebog!

Black Rose Dying
The Guild of the Black Rose has for many years been the premiere guild of undead hunters.  But, since their startling revelation several weeks ago, many people have wondered what their true purpose is.  Shane, a citizen of the Kingdom of Dawn, told reporters, “If they’re undead, how can we trust them?  They’ve been lying to us for decades!”  The Noble Edict, created by Purge, the Arcanister of the Healing branch of the College of All  Magic, was supposed to solve the problem of distinguishing Light-filled undead from Shadowy undead.  Yet the Noble Edict has not prevented the disappearance of top-ranking members of the Guild of the Black Rose.  Some, who prefer to remain unnamed, say that those who disappear must have secretly been Shadowy.  But others worry that the fight against Shadowy undead has become a hunt of all undead.

Tidings and Rumors, Week Five
Report by Emily Randall

Bazaar Rescued from Krov
The Risen Lands Bazaar is known throughout the lands as a place where anything can be bought or sold, for the right price.  It is held in neutral territory, in the Risen Lands near the College of All Magic.  This time, two captains of the guard were hired: a Krov Mercenary and a Clansman from the Deva Teeth mountains.  Eventually, the tension between them escalated into an all-out battle.  That’s when the rest of the Krov attacked.  They were driven back by the bold heroes at the Bazaar, but not easily.  What is Empress Meng trying to imply?  It is rare that her Krov are defeated, even if it is not the entire army.  But they were defeated both at the Bazaar and at the Red Citadel a few days before.  Several Shadonian Lords have already perished.  Is Meng losing her power, too?  The balance of power in Orania is shifting.  Who knows what our world will look like when it is done.

Noble Edict Changed
The Noble Edict was written to ask all Light-filled undead to be registered and to bear a mark as proof of their Light, so that the Shadowy undead could be destroyed safely.  Now, it says, “All undead must be obliterated on sight.”  Vex, a top supporter of the Edict, explains, “We don’t have time to distinguish between Light-filled and Shadowy undead anymore.  The undead are simply too dangerous.  We must stop the menace, now!”  Undead, beware!  Many people support the Noble Edict, believing that it will stop the destruction undead often cause.  They may be correct.

Red Citadel Saved
The Red Citadel, a fortress in the Deva Teeth mountains, was rescued last week by a band of noble adventurers.  It had been besieged by several different groups, including the Krov Mercenaries, and labored under a harsh, tyrannical ruler who treated his people like dirt.  A band of “Pelovians,” exiles thrown in the Citadel’s underground prisons, planned a revolt, but did not have the strength to execute it without outside assistance.  The adventurers brought a relief army to the Citadel, drove away the attackers circling outside its walls, and freed the people from their unjust ruler.  To do so, they woke the gigantic stone elementals that were part of the Citadel, winning their aid in the battle.  Now, the Red Citadel has a new ruler, and can once again stand strong against the forces of Shadow.

Tidings and Rumors, Week Six
Report by Emily Randall

Chaos Unleashed
In the Empire of the Seven Stars, chaos creatures ravaged the land last week, creating havoc and destroying livelihoods.  An ancient chaos dragon who had been trapped in the Dream Realm for centuries broke free when the bonds of his prison were weakened by the death of Thrakaf the Nightwalker.  It appears that the Nightwalker had maintained parts of the Dream Realm in a form of stasis, not allowing anything to change unless he willed it.  But when he died, the realm returned to its normal state, freeing the dragon.  It also freed many creatures that were previously only found in legend, infusing them with chaos and letting them roam where they wanted.  Finally, these horrors, including the dragon, were forced back into their prisons by a band of Light-filled adventurers.  They found five elemental artifacts that channeled the power of one element each, and used them to reseal the walls of the prison that had contained the dragon for millennia.  House Serpent was destroyed in the battle.

Unrest Growing
Lin Chu Hao, the regent of the Empire of the Seven Stars, declared last week that all peasants must pay a second tax on their earnings.  This declaration is just one of many that has been passed since Lin Chu Haotook over the Empire.  As Master Kastagire remains incapacitated, Lin Chu Hao consolidates her power and reshapes the Empire.  Her changes are nearly universally hated.  She has instituted policies that forbid travel to different merchant houses, that increase taxes, and that create more censorship than ever before.  She says that the Empire of the Seven Stars will regain its rightful “Place in the Sun,” but her reforms do not seem to help the country.  Instead, they infuriate the populace and bring all wealth directly to the Imperial Palace.  Even some powerful merchants have protested the reforms.  But many who speak out simply disappear.

Attempted Assassination
Several days ago, tinkered explosives began destroying major buildings in Solaris.  No one knew who set them, or why they were going off.  A group of adventurers was seen near many of the explosions, but could not be caught.  They included among their number a werewolf, a vampire, an Adamantium Guard named Dracolord, and a water elemental called Kirby, as well as others.  Many feared that this group had gone rogue, and were trying to assassinate High King Pellinore, using weapons bought from Ragnar, the so-called Merchant of Chaos.  A note was even found, saying that “Pellinore will die in 24 hours.”  This thankfully was proven to be untrue, due to the bravery of the band of adventurers described above.  Although the headquarters of the Adamantium Guard, the Parliament building, and many other important locations were destroyed, the High King survived.  No one has been able to say what exactly happened, or how these explosives were planted, although most sources believe that Ragnar did play a major role.  We owe a debt to the courageous adventurers who prevented the explosion of many of the weapons, and thereby saved our city.

Tidings and Rumors, Week Seven
Report by Emily Randall

Oblivion Storm Obliterated
Deep in the heart of the Penumbra, a magical cataclysm of deadly proportions set in motion a terrifying oblivion storm last week that destroyed everything it contacted.  A boiling cloud of red and black, it was expanding rapidly, threatening to engulf the entire world.  A time mage named Clockson announced that, if the heroes summoned to find their leaders could not do anything, all of Thael would be destroyed.  The heroes fought valiantly, and came up with ways to slow the storm down, but they could not defeat the eight generals of the Voidmaster.  These avatars of the Void had been released when the oblivion storm was created, and refused to return to their prisons.  They opposed the adventures with all of their formidable power.  Just when all hope seemed lost, Zyrathrin, a powerful mage, remembered the lore of the Voidbane blades.  Once found, these blades were the only things that could truly harm the avatars.  The adventurers used the blades to defeat the generals, thus destroying the oblivion storm and severely weakening the Voidmaster.  Witnesses report that, during the final battle, the Voidmaster’s mask cracked and shattered, and she disappeared in a gigantic explosion of Void.

Lost Heroes Returned
Long ago, the Voidmaster corrupted eight heroes of the Light, transforming them into avatars of Void and darkness. When the oblivion storm broke loose, the avatars, the Void generals, were freed as well.  They began wreaking havoc and destroying the adventurers who tried to stop the storm.  But these adventurers found the Voidbane blades, and prepared to drive them back.  That was when a Void Phoenix, released at the same time as the world leaders, told the Questers the full story.  Ice, a dragon-elemental lady who commanded water, stole spirits because she was so lonely, and believed that death was better than a life of pain.  Rac Nightshade, a poison master, never got to hold his infant son, and just wanted to touch another living being: unfortunately, his hands were coated in death poison.  Creed was an undead hunter who, under the Voidmaster’s control, had been forcibly turned into a powerful undead monstrosity.  And the Cartographer simply wanted to map the entire world, including the ever-changing Void.  These four were returned to the Light, becoming heroes again.  The other four were destroyed, for they could not be healed.

World Leaders Rescued
A week ago, many world leaders were called to the Penumbra by Lord Degamesian, the Sable Elf leader of the Dark Knot.  He requested the meeting supposedly to discuss the threats facing the world, but mainly as a ploy to further his own political gain.  Although he did not intend to capture the leaders, they never returned from the meeting, having been sucked into the oblivion storm.  Groups of adventurers were sent out from every country and organization who had lost a leader, and told to discover what had happened. The discovery was much more complex than originally anticipated, but in the end the leaders were recovered.  King Pellinore, Talking Stone, Lady Elinore, and even Ashida Takeki, the Shadonian assassin, were released from an orb that the adventurers reconstructed, the Orb of Oblivion.  Surprisingly, although many groups who sent envoys were deadly enemies of one another, they worked in relative harmony to free their leaders.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF 2011 - PLOTS, CHARACTERS, AND ADVENTURE!

Kastagire seems rather jolly given the circumstances...

Kastagire Assassination!

Despite rumors to the contrary, it seems as if Master Kastagire of House Jade has met his end...
Tidings and Rumors, Week One
Report by Emily Randall

Is Thrakaf Dead?
According to many adventurers, the dreaded Nightwalker has been destroyed.  A lord of Shadonia, Thrakaf is not an easy opponent.  Contradiction, a Quester who took part in the fight, said that that the Dark Man absorbed Thrakaf’s essence.  Supposedly, the Dark Man is a new enigma, who has a skull for a face and eats dreams, according to Dororo the Assassin.  But at the most recent Bazaar, an assassin who had just attacked Master Kastagirewas seen transforming into Thrakaf before teleporting away.  Eyewitnesses claim that he cried “Shadonia will rise again!” as he disappeared.  Is the Nightwalker truly gone for good?  If you have information on the matter, please contact us!

Master Kastagire Attacked
Master Kastagire, the Emperor of the Empire of the Seven Stars, was attacked several times at the most recent Bazaar.  The first assassin was a silent lady, clothed all in brown, who could not speak the tongue of any who were present.  Unnamed sources believe her to have been controlled by something else, possibly the Dark Man.  The next plot was to frame Dororo the Assassin, a Light Ninja, according to witnesses, but that attempt failed.
Unfortunately, the final attempt succeeded.  A harmless pet merchant somehow got close enough to the Emperor to stab him.  Although Master Kastagire deflected the knife, its edge brushed his skin as he did so.  Almost immediately, he fell into a stupor, unable to be awakened. Many fear that the blade was touched by Shadow, and its touch has corrupted Master Kastagire.  Currently, he is incapacitated, and Lin Chu Hao has taken the Regency.

A New Empress?
Lin Chu Hao now sits on the throne of the Empire of the Seven Stars.  Although adventurers claim that she collaborated with Thrakaf the Nightwalker to assassinate Master Kastigire, nothing has been proven.  Sources who prefer to remain unnamed, worried that she will attack them, say that she is the most Shadowy woman in the Empire.  But, as of when this paper went to print, she had not made any substantial changes to the Empire’s policy.  Will this continue?  Regardless, many are worried that Lin Chu Hao will prove a dangerous regent, and an even more dangerous empress.

Tidings and Rumors, Week Two
Report by Emily Randall
Week of Nightmares
For the past week, what appear to be animated nightmares have plagued the continent, randomly appearing and terrorizing the populace.  No one seems to know how they were created, or why they suddenly began materializing, and then abruptly vanished.  Duke Louisus of Grand Cattonia told reporters that a group of adventurers may be indirectly responsible.  “They said something about a Dream Essential named Neepo, or something like that.  Apparently he got the impression that Lin Chu Hao was going to kill him, so he sent out nightmares-turned-real to hunt her down.”  The Duke refused to provide more information.

Tome of the Loremaster Returned
Lady Artemis, daughter of Duke Louisus, has been found, and the legendary Tome of the Loremaster has been returned.  Some say that this tome has access to all the information ever written down, and simply by opening its pages it is possible to learn any secret.  Daykar, the alchemist who kidnapped Artemis and the tome, has been captured.  His whereabouts are unknown, as Duke Louisus refuses to release the information.  One source says that Lin Chu Hao wanted the tome, but others disagree.  Regardless, it is now safe, thanks to many brave adventurers who fought the pirates Daykar had hired to complete his nefarious plot.
Pihuenyi’s Second-in-Command Killed
Another Lord of Shadonia appears to be weakening, adventurers report.  Pihuenyi’s right-hand vampire, who calls herself Lady Asteyra Nightblood, was destroyed recently by a band of Questers who found her in one of the strongholds of the so-called First Vampire.  Nothing more has been heard from those brave adventurers, but sources who are close to them say that they may be chasing Pihuenyi himself.  Will another Lord fall?  We will publish any information as soon as possible.

Secret of the Black Rose Revealed
The Guild of the Black Rose has for many years been seen as the best undead-hunting organization in Thael.  But a Guild spokesman says that this was not actually the guild’s true purpose.  Berto, a powerful leader of the organization, says, “We were created originally to protect the Light-filled undead, and destroy only the Shadowy ones.  We never lost that purpose, we simply concealed it.”  He went on to admit that most of the high command of the Guild of the Black Rose are actually undead themselves, who have lived among us for centuries.  One, who prefers to remain unnamed, explains, “We’re sorry that we had to conceal our true natures, but we wanted to fight for the Light.  If we had revealed ourselves, we would have been slain before we could make a difference in the world.”

Pirate Fleet Attacks
--Grand Cattonia
Two days ago, a gigantic pirate fleet was spotted sailing along the coast of Cattonia, opposed only by a small group of Cattonian naval vessels.  While they flew the Jolly Roger, some believe that the ships were actually from the Empire of the Seven Stars, sent by Lin Chu Hao for an unknown purpose.  The Loremaster was mentioned in connection to this, but the exact reason why is unclear.  As this paper goes to print, battle is being engaged.  Grunt, the commander of the Dragon Society’s military, has called in assistance, and Duke Louisus of Grand Cattonia is confident of victory, but the outcome still remains unknown.

Tidings and Rumors, Week Three
Report by Emily Randall

Pihuenyi is Dead!
Another Lord has fallen! The Guild of the Black Rose announced yesterday that the so-called “First Vampire,” the “Father of the Nameless Drinkers of Life,” was slain by a band of adventurers.  His death, only days after the death of his top lieutenant, comes as a shock to many people.  Eliana Fiahmor, a part-blood vampire, says “This was completely unexpected.  They shouldn’t have been able to take him down!  If Shadonia’s power is weakening…”  She refused to comment further.  Purge and Vex have also taken an interest in Pihuenyi’s destruction.  Purge, the Arcanister of the Healing branch of the College of All Magic, says that she will pay for information regarding the methods used to kill the powerful vampire lord.

The Doeskin Recovered
The Doeskin, a powerful magic artifact made by the Titan Aarwan, was reclaimed last week after a band of thieves stole it from the king of the dwarven Dragonspine Citadel.  Courageous Questers tracked the thieves to their lair, and, after many hardships, were able to return the Doeskin to its owners.  It was then auctioned off at the Bazaar, eventually ending up in the possession of Splogen of ATLAS.  He, and representatives from the Isitus Society and the Dragon Society, are hopeful that it holds the key to healing Master Kastagire.

Blood Mages Defeated
A group of blood mages hiding in the northern mountains was found and defeated last week by the new group called EPICS.  They formed in response to the Shadow that threatens our land.  The blood mages had stolen the Necro-orb held by the Clans and were using it to wreak havoc, controlling innocents through their blood.  Only a few brave adventurers, with the help of a band of ATLAS troops, were able to stop this menace.  One, a summer elf named Elrond, sacrificed his life to destroy one of the blood mages.  Others, too, gave their lives to fulfill their Quest.  Rumors say that these blood mages are just the forefront of a force soon to be flooding our land.  The Blood Dragon was mentioned, but no one seems to know what it is.  If you have information, please contact us!

Two-Front War?
Eyewitnesses in the Risen Lands report seeing Empress Meng of Shadonia and current leader of the Mercenaries of Krov, whispering with Empress-Regent Lin Chu Hao of the Empire of the Seven Stars.  Is Lin Chu Hao allied with Shadonia?  This has been rumored in the past, but never proven.  This time, though, the rumors are being taken more seriously. Admiral Porter of the Royal Dawn Navy announced, “During this time of war with Shadonia, we must protect all borders, not just the borders close to Shadonia. The Empire has been an ally, but they did invade in the past. If they ally with Shadonia now then we'll be fighting a war on two fronts.”  The Kingdom of Dawn says that it will be ready for any and all threats, regardless of their origins.

Purge Enacts the Noble Edict
Purge, the Arcanisterof the Healing branch of the College of All Magic, enacted the Noble Edict in response to an undead assault during the Bazaar several days ago.  It reads, “In this day and age, Shadowy undead are becoming an ever-increasing problem.  With this edict, we propose a solution to this problem. All Light-filled undead should be registered as such, and bear a mark as proof of their Light.  All undead without this mark of honor are deemed enemies of the Light, and will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.”  Purge and Vex, her right-hand helper, ask all Light-filled people to join them in their quest to prevent any more atrocities committed by the Shadowy undead.  Help Vex, Witchhunter, and many more fight these dark monstrosities!
